Our American Music History course is a 12-lesson online class reviewing the history of American music. You will learn about the history of blues, jazz, rock and roll, soul, country, rap and more. Each lesson explores a different type of music with short video lectures, music, storytelling, geography and history. You will learn to recognize different genres of American music and understand the important contributions to American culture from diverse pioneers throughout history. Each lesson inspires critical thinking, cultural understanding and appreciation for music.
The course is appropriate for students in 7th-12th grade with a general knowledge of U.S. history and an interest in music. If this is you, our American Music and Cultural History course will inspire you to see and hear the world differently and understand the history and origins of American music and culture.
You will receive one lesson each week for 12 weeks. Enjoy the class at your own pace as we build a timeline of American music history and listen to a new playlist of music each week.

TEACH AMERICAN MUSIC HISTORY

Our American Music History curriculum for classrooms is a 12-lesson online series detailing the history of American roots music in conjunction with American history. All of our lessons integrate lectures, video content, music, storytelling, geography and history. Students will learn to recognize different genres of American music and understand the important cultural contributions to American culture from diverse pioneers throughout history. Each lesson inspires critical thinking, cultural understanding and appreciation for music and the arts.
The program is complete with teacher guides, specific learning objectives, project-based learning activities and higher-order thinking questions for discussion. The concept-based curriculum is in line with California State Standards for social studies and visual and performing arts providing historical and cultural context.
